Future-Proof Automation in Food Packaging
Reduce manual interventions and stops that prevent food packaging lines from reaching target output and quality. Build your factory of the future with neXt by Syntegon.
Workforce shortages, unplanned stops and cost pressure demand smart automation
Labor shortages, unplanned stops and increasing costs raise pressure and demand future-proof automation solutions. As your strategic lifecycle partner, Syntegon addresses all three with neXt, an automation concept built on three pillars:
- Seamless Operation.
- Smart decisions.
- Touchless automation.
neXt: Empowering Your Factory of the Future
Run your food packaging lines with less operators, fewer stops and lower cost
How to reduce unplanned stops on food packaging lines
Unplanned stoppages are the primary source of lost output on food packaging lines, and most are avoidable with earlier detection. In response, Syntegon builds neXt to support operators to run the line efficiently. neXt monitors the line status continuously. It triggers corrective responses in a highly visual and easy to understand manner. This reduces downtime, protecting OEE across every shift. Our seamless operation capabilities include:
- Continuous status monitoring across connected line equipment
- Clear visualization and corrective responses that reduce unplanned downtime
- Higher OEE through fewer and shorter unplanned interruptions
How to cut packaging line costs without cutting output
Rising energy, material and labor costs compress margins on food packaging lines where small inefficiencies compound across every shift. Given this, Syntegon's neXt smart decision capability translates live line data into fast decisions that reduce material waste, downtime and energy consumption. No more guessing, only instant messaging, clear visual guidance and fast remedy. Our smart decision capabilities include:
- Live status data surfaces inefficiencies and errors before they escalate
- Automated adjustments reduce energy and material waste per run
- Downtime costs reduced through continuous line performance management
How to keep skilled operators focused on work that really matters
Qualified packaging line operators are scarce and hard to replace. To meet this, Syntegon designs neXt to take over repetitive monitoring, adjustment and correction tasks, so the operators you have spend their shift on work that requires judgement, not just presence. More meaningful work raises job satisfaction and supports operator retention. Our touchless automation capabilities include:
- Material replenishment and quality controls handled autonomously
- Operators redeployed to higher-value tasks across the shift
- More engaging roles that support operator retention
Ready for the factory of the future with neXt packaging lines
DRFG Gondola Buffer
Maintains continuous product flow between upstream and downstream equipment, decoupling process and packaging sections to protect overall output from isolated stops. Stores up to 600 rows of products.
HFX5 Flow Wrapper – Primary Packaging
Wraps individual products at high speed with consistent seal quality. Designed for quick format changes and autonomous reel supply. HFX flow wrappers run for four hours or longer without operator intervention. The new AMR (autonomous mobile robot) autonomously supplies and mounts new film reels onto the machine.
TRX Integrated Topload Cartoner
Forms, loads and closes many carton styles and sizes on one single machine. TRX cartoners support operators with guided, verified and semi-automated changeover concepts. A changeover can be performed within ten minutes.
HFX5 Flow Wrapper – Paper Multipacks
Groups of primary wrapped products are packed into PPWR-compliant paper multipacks. HFX flow wrappers equipped with Paper-on-Form replace conventional plastic film with compliant and attractive paper flow wraps.
Elematic 3001 Wraparound Case Packer with palletizer
Forms, loads and closes wraparound cases for maximum transport safety and shelf appeal. Elematic case packers can be combined with the new Statrix palletizer to complete the line. From primary packaging to pallet – one seamless system.

Technology examples behind neXt
Guide-by-Light
With fewer operators and increasing touchless automation, operators are no longer tied to the line. Guide-by-light shows the machine status, clearly visible from a distance. When a stop occurs, the respective machine turns red. In addition, operators see on the HMI and their mobile device exactly what happened and how to resolve the problem without having to walk to the machine first.
Fully Automated Quality Control
Only good products enter the packaging process. neXt integrates fully automated quality inspection at the head of line. The neXt delta robotic cell RPQ scans every product on the process belt and continuously weighs product samples. Defects are identified instantly and faulty products are rejected without operator involvement, always delivering consistent quality control when the line is running.
Full Operator Support
In the factory of the future, fewer operators will be in control of several lines. neXt equips operators with tools like Logbook to monitor production closely. And if something goes wrong, neXt offers clear, step-by-step instructions how to resolve issues. The new MyHMI offers intuitive operation, a flat information hierarchy and the possibility to add mobile extensions on tablets or other devices. Operators have easy access to all relevant information and instructions at any time and any where.
